Euramax organized this competition in order to select a design that will cover a factory wall in Holand by using the innovative aluminium composite panels of AluDesign.
As an entry for the competition, a conceptual design titled ‘Mathematics is the Language of Nature’ was developed as described below.
The panel itself is being revealed by having the same grid formed by the aluminum panels at the background of the design. At some point in this dynamic composition, the panels/frames start to move from their original position to form an articulation that gives us a three dimensional sense and experience.
This design originates from an ecosustainable architecture culture backround – the conceptual idea is to display numbers emerging from the Fibonacci sequence, the architectural sign representing grass in elevation, and the use of green colors.
Both the architectural approach of the design and the idea to use nature as a theme intend to send out an eco-friendly message regarding industrial pollution and also to promote the use of panels instead of alternative decorative methods, such as street art graffiti, which is often connected to vandalism.
Finally, this design offers a dual experience: it can be viewed both in a fast way by the vehicles passing by as well as in a slower more static way by customers and passers-by. The articulated movement of the frames as panels moved from their original position, delivers a dynamic and fast viewed experience. Additionally, the numbers and the architectural sign of the grass deliver a more static experience, as a hidden quality to the viewer.
The linear grass sign can also be interpreted as a ruler, giving the sense of nature’s way to grow and evolve, which is also what the Fibonacci sequence is all about and the reason why the entry’s theme is ‘Mathematics is the Language of Nature’.
