Navelli has the aspect of a typical medieval town, as it is a fortified village with a Castle. Inside Navelli lie the medieval narrow streets and the Castle at the top of the village.
Currently, many of the properties of the historic centre are facing important degradation and precarious structural conditions. The medieval part in particular is in total abandonment with many buildings displaying major evident collapses and disruption.
The intervention of this proposal presented is part of the anticipated building recovery project of the historic centre of Navelli.
The aim of this proposal is to deliver a new architectural, functional and economical aspect to the historic centre of the village through a new elaboration of the traditional house of array (casa a schiera) by common interest usage and private exploitation.
On the groundfloor of each of the three buildings is an indipendent service open to the public, such as a small boutique exposition, a bar cafeteria and a botanic research laboratory including a single bed residence for the operator. To the rest of each building are being developed duplex rental apartments all three with an independent access, fully equiped and predominantly addressed to tourist families.
These buildings respect the proportions of the attached houses, repeating the same logic for the roofs but at the same time having the main elevation point to the rear side instead of the front, with larger openings for a better and more interesting view of the public space. That way a new contemporary architectural aspect is created based on and influenced by the medieval ruins of the historic centre of the village.
